Gender-Based violence refers to harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender. It is rooted in gender inequality, the abuse of power and harmful norms. Gender-based violence (GBV) is a serious violation of human rights and a life-threatening health and protection issue.

It won’t be a normal day In South Africa if 24 hours pass by without hearing about the passing of a young woman in the hands of a man or a case of GBV with a man being the perpetrator. It appears that GBV won’t be ending anytime soon , as men keep on killing their wives despite Ramaphosa’s efforts of introducing hefty sentences to GBV offenders.
