Chiefs to break bank for this player worth over R11 million?

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs still have just under 48 hours to pursue the signatures of any players they wish to get on board for the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign.

The domestic transfer window will slam shut on Tuesday, 31 August 2021 at 12 midnight, and it remains to be seen if Amakhosi will be reaching out for the cheque book one more time.

Chiefs have so far signed nine players to strengthen their ranks as they look to challenge for major league honours this season.

Three players’ names have in the past few days been bandied about, with several reports linking SuperSport United midfield maestro Sipho Mbule, Royal AM striker Victor Letsoalo and unattached Thabo Cele to Naturena.

Bafana star Teboho Mokoena still respects the curfew

Mbule, 23, has been one of Chiefs’ main transfer targets although the stumbling block is said to have been how expensive he is, considering his current worth which stands at R11. 6 million.

Although the exciting prospect will cost Chiefs an arm and a leg, with age still much very much on his side, Mbule will most likely guarantee coach Stuart Baxter and the Glamour Boys many years of exciting football and endless possibility.

The young attacker has already helped Matsatsantsa atop of the DStv Premiership standings with four points so far this term, thanks to one win and a draw – as they hold a superior goal difference over the other teams on the same number of points.

Sipho Mbule not resting on his laurels as he seeks fitness

Mbule is one of the hottest rising stars in the country and is already a big part of Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos’ plans, having drafted the youngster into his 23-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana next month.

It has been no secret that Chiefs were after Mbule’s services, however simultaneously cited a hefty transfer fee could scupper the deal.

The Bethlehem-born midfielder could very well be the right man for the job should Chiefs opt to make a last-minute attempt to snatch him away from SuperSport.

Mbule is still contracted to the Tshwane giants until 30 June 2022.
