Family of murdered Tembisa hospital nurse crushed by grief as they see ‘killer cop’ for the first time

The suspected murderer and man said to be Lebo Monene’s ex was in the hospital at the time of her funeral. Her family drove to Joburg from Limpopo to finally catch a glimpse of his maskless face.
JOHANNESBURG – The family of nurse Lebo Monene have told Eyewitness News how they wonder whether her life would have been spared if police had acted against her alleged killer timeously.

The 30-year-old was shot dead in the parking lot of the Tembisa Hospital allegedly by her boyfriend, a police officer, who then turned the gun on himself.

He has been in hospital since the ordeal in February.

In February, the family of Lebo Monene had learned that she and her alleged killer were living separately at the time of her murder because of the toxic nature of their relationship.

But now her father, Nicholas Monene, has told Eyewitness News that they have learned more about that relationship.

“Lebo had reported the guy to the police station about always trying to kill her. She went to the police, they took the gun from the guy, and they kept it for some days. From there they gave back the gun to the guy. What we were worried about as a family is how could they give this guy the gun?”

Eyewitness News has inquired with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) on this matter and spokesperson Lizzy Shuping said they were looking at all aspects related to Monene’s death.

Eyewitness News understands that the accused, who cannot be named at this stage, has been attending physiotherapy and is now fit to stand trial.

The mother of 3 sets of twins needs help

For Duduzile Petros, a mother of eight from Thamashanga, a stone’s throw away from Francistown, raising children has become unbearable. Thus the 45-year-old unemployed single mother is not even ashamed to ask for help. She gets on by selling snacks, but this does not bring in enough for the nine of them.

A Good Samaritan has accommodated her and the children without charge in a two-roomed house in Tati Siding while away working in another town. But Petros is afraid that she may find herself homeless once the landlord returns. Her only responsibility is to care for the yard.

Petros has three pairs of twins and two singletons. The first born is now 25, also unemployed, the second-born are 19-year-old twins, then 17-year-old twins, an 11-year-old and six-year-old twins. The fathers of all her children have disappeared into oblivion.

What gives her comfort right now is that one pair of her twins is currently doing Form 4 in a local boarding school and she does not need to worry about what they eat during school terms.

Petros lost both parents and her remaining family members are not willing to assist her. Since being diagnosed with a backbone problem, it has been difficult to find a job that she can do with her condition.

“I have been warned at the hospital not to do difficult jobs and this limits me from searching for jobs to provide for these kids,“ Petros said in an ailing voice.

According to Pedros, multiples run in her maternal side of the family, with her own late mother being a twin

It is tragic to learn that Siyacela’s father, who was famous from the Moja Love reality series “Isencane Lengane,” passed suddenly. On the reality show, he is known as Siyacela and utilized his Facebook account to post about the sad demise of his father.

The sharing was as follows:

Due to how tragic this is, numerous users on Facebook were moved and began writing condolence notes.

Here are a some of the notes of sympathy that were sent:

It is heartbreaking that Siyacela lost his father just when he most needed him. He was unsure of the cause of death, but he was grateful for his father’s contribution. Show viewers will be informed of how Siyacela’s father played a key role in arranging for his son to wed the woman he adored.

How will the little Siyacela manage without his father? How has the death of his father affected him? When a loved one passes away, there are no words to adequately express the sadness. This is because no one can step into the shoes of a deceased person. It is challenging to replace a person when they pass away because each person is unique in their own way.

The hurt caused by losing a loved one never goes away, but instead stays with the people left behind.

Siyacela is going through a difficult time right now, and he will need the help of his family and the community to get through it.

Siyacela’s father left behind just memories, thus those are the ones that will always be treasured. I pray for peace for his soul.

Police arrest domestic worker after her employer is found dead

Police arrest domestic worker after her employer is found dead

Police swooped in to arrest a 54-year-old live-in domestic worker after her boss, Ashmika Seeripath was found dead in her home.

The incident happened Umzinto, a town in KZN.

Police suspect that suffocation might have been the cause of Seeripath’s death.

Lieutenant-colonel Nqobile Gwala, the SAPS spokesperson, said: “A case of murder is being investigated by the SAPS Umzinto branch. It is alleged that on July 7, around midday, men possessing firearms gained entry into the home in Kadville Heights and demanded cash.

“The body of the 42-year-old woman was found lying at the side of a bed. It is suspected that the victim was suffocated.”

Gwala confirmed that the domestic worker was arrested and was expected to appear in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

According to Shamilla Sookraj, the ward 12 councillor in the Umdoni Municipality, Seeripath’s body was found in a bedroom, between two beds.

“Ashmika had been living with her mum, Rani Seeripath, her sister’s child and the domestic worker.

“The domestic worker called Ashmika’s mum (Rani) around midday while she had been travelling with a businessman – stating that she could not find her daughter.

“They immediately drove to the home. They looked for Ashmika and found her lying unconscious between beds in the room.”

Sookraj said they then alerted the police and it seemed that Seeripath had been smothered, and nothing was taken from the home.

“When I got the call, I was unsure what to make of it, so I went to the house. The mum had been taking Ashmika’s death badly,” said Sookraj who also spoke about the spike in crime in the area.

“Things have gone bad in our town of Umzinto. Crime is getting out of hand. Housebreakings, theft and drug-related issues are common,” said Sookraj.

The Seeripath family declined to comment when approached.
